To accommodate the higher volumes of traffic and improve driver safety along the Robious corridor, VDOT will continue widening the road from two lanes to four lanes near the Chesterfield/Powhatan County line. This will start at Robious Forest Way and continue to Rt 288. To encourage healthy habits in our community, a bicycle and pedestrian accommodations will continue as well.
Another feature of the project will be replacing the bridge over Bernards Creek. Along the southbound side of the bridge a five foot wide sidewalk will be added and connect to the existing sidewalk in Chesterfield County. In addition, four foot wide bike lanes will be added on the north and southbound side. A raised grass and concrete median will run down the entire length of the project to provide for future turning lanes. The only traffic light adjustment will be at Winterfield Road to function with the new alignment and possibly another traffic light at the Robious and River Downs intersection.
At this point in time, traffic impacts from the construction are minimal. Alternating lane closures are only on weekdays from 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Completion of this project is projected for summer 2019.
